The Hermit Traits
The Major arcana is the story of the path of The Fool. There are 22 cards in the Major arcana, and one of them is the card that illustrates The Fool itself. As The Fool meets with the young woman who illustrates inner strength, now The Fool seeks for answers and he finds out that all answers and all truth are within him. Everything he needs to know and everything which he wants to seek comes from within. He discovers that each person is unique and this uniqueness comes from the inside. This card is called The Hermit and is the ninth card of the Major arcana.
The main keyword of The Hermit card is introspection. For The Fool now is the right time to introspect everything as he wants to know everything and wants answers on everything. That’s probably the main reason why is he trying to analyse everything. This is the critical period of The Fool’s path. Introspecting, analysing and investigating everything are the key to success and the key to the successful path. So The Fool understands this one fact: if he wants to know the truth he has to seek it within himself, he has to find every solution and answer inside himself.
The Fool understands that the unconscious mind is secret and he has to dig deep into his unconscious via his subconscious. As he learns that all the answers are within him, he tries to communicate his consciousness to his unconscious mind, and operating them together is the perfect choice. Upon having many realisations, The Fool comes to a sense of truth about life, so now all of his actions, all of his steps or the rests he takes are made deliberately.
First of all, he analyses each step and makes a move forward. He is very careful and already believes that every problem has a solution and everything is within him. That’s why he examines and analyses every step or move he makes. At this period of life, The Fool seeks peace. The Fool understands that the only way to live in peace you to be very careful, analyse, and examine everything. In this period The Fool is similar to a therapist who is a very wise man because he knows many truths, he is very confident and can give you the best advice.
One of the main things about The Hermit card is that The Fool is not hiding in a cave. He is merely going deep into his mind where he analyses and acts at the same time so as to have maximum success in his life and on his road. He is gathering information, and after finding solutions he acts in no time because he does not want to lose valuable time. In fact, The Hermit is the most mysterious card in the Major arcana and is one of the most spiritual cards in the deck. The Hermit card tells you that you shouldn’t be impatient, that you must be very calm and very patient. You should wait for the right answer and solution for the problem, but first of all remember that you will find all the truth you need within you.
Notice that there are few key figures on which we have to focus right now. Firstly, there is the old man on the card who is holding a staff and a lantern at the same time. In fact, the staff is the main symbol of The Hermit card. You’ll often see saints and even priests holding a staff. So why is the staff so magical? It is because the staff is the symbol of power and authority. Because The Hermit is a wise and powerful man, he holds the staff to symbolise his authority. Notice that The Hermit is holding the staff in his left hand. The left hand is associated with the subconscious mind, so The Hermit tells us that he is holding the most powerful tool – his subconscious mind – and he can use it whenever he wants to achieve higher awareness.
Another main symbol of this card is the icy top of the mountain. The Hermit is alone and isolated from other surroundings. This position at the top of an icy mountain symbolises the choice to spend time alone away from other people, and also symbolises that The Hermit achieved higher levels of awareness and knowledge due to having been given enough time and solitude to delve deep into his subconscious mind. He wanted to achieve higher levels, and having isolated himself from the crowd he has been able to achieve what he wanted.
Another symbol that is illustrated on this card is the Star of David, which is placed inside the lantern. Biblically, the name “David” means the chosen one from God, so the star tells us that The Hermit is the chosen one from God. What we don’t get told by modern religion is that we choose ourselves. God doesn’t choose us. We choose ourselves by deciding which path to take in life, and by working towards becoming good. This star is shining which means that God is giving The Hermit the power to achieve higher levels of success. The Hermit holds the lantern because he did everything to transform his life and arrive at this level of spirituality. This lantern and star also means that The Hermit balances everything with the energies and power of this star.
Tarot and astrology are tightly linked with each other so each card has its symbol in astrology. The Hermit card is associated with the zodiac sign Virgo. Virgo and The Hermit have the same characteristics. So Virgo, just like The Hermit, is very helpful, analytical and reliable. Virgo is also very powerful and very independent.
If The Hermit card appears during your tarot reading then you are being asked to think a bit more. First of all this means that you have to observe everything, you simply have to be very patient. The Hermit card tells you that all the answers and all the power is within you, but you would be wise to not be impatient. Then next, you will need to gather information, analyse the information that you find, and then you can act. The Hermit means that if you want to achieve much higher levels of success then you probably have to use your unconscious mind as your powerful tool for success. However, you also have to develop your spiritual skills and become a more spiritual person. This means going within for the answers. So be very patient and wise, and always analyse everything before making a decision.

Here’s a site where you’ll find my writings.
The Bravehearts of Belgrave High is now published. I have completed the first in a series of novels that I wrote for teens. It is the courageous story of a young girl growing up in a home filled with domestic violence. She also has to endure a school and neighbourhood full of bullies. We read how she maneuvres her way through such a difficult situation. Plus, how she grows because of it, among other themes in the novel.
The desired outcome for young readers is that they will be inspired to treasure their unique differences. If they don’t fit in with the system or with those around them, then they should realise that it’s quite okay not to fit in.
My first novel was written to help raise funds for the private foundation that I established, which might later become a charity. Click here if you’d like to be taken to the site where you can purchase this novel. If you cannot see the site, use a browser other than Chrome.
