Astrology and The Tarot
Each zodiac sign has two tarot cards with which is it associated, one from the major arcana and one from the minor. If you know your Sun or Star sign, select the cards associated with it. Sit and reflect upon these images. Are you drawn to any of the colours, themes, or common qualities? Perhaps you have a strong reaction to the images.
Your astrology chart and the planet placements are insightful when used with tarot cards. For example, if you have the Moon in Sagittarius, the tarot cards that are relevant include Temperance and the Knight of Wands. Since there is also the Moon card in the tarot, you can select that card too. This provides you with two or three different images symbolising your Moon or emotional self.
While the tarot is around 600 years old, the links between astrology and tarot have been popularised more recently. This is mainly because of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Suits And Minor Arcana
There are four Tarot suits in the Tarot deck: Cups, Pentacles, Swords, and Wands. Each suit is associated with one of the four astrology elements:
Cups with Water
Pentacles with Earth
Swords with Air
Wands with Fire
The Sun Sign Card reflects your conscious, expressive, outward, open personality; how you engage with people and the world around you.
The Moon Sign Card reflects your unconscious, hidden, blocked personality traits, instincts and emotions; you feel them within.
Your Ascendant reflects how other people see you, especially when you first meet. It shows your natural, habitual, instinctive and spontaneous reaction to new people and situations. First impressions.
The Elements
Each element is vital for life and they are designed to support each other to maintain balance: without Air, Fire will die; without Water, Earth cannot survive. The system of elements and their relationship to distinct energies, or personality types, dates from the 4th century BCE and Aristotle’s theory on the ratio of opposites.
Fire was associated with warmth, Earth was dry, Air cool, and Water moist. Even from these basic descriptions, we can see implicit character traits: cool-headed, intelligent Air signs reveal the nature of the logical Swords; receptive Water signs link with emotional Cups.
Signs of the Zodiac
In astrology, each element relates to the 3 signs of the zodiac that share that element. For example, Water is linked to the water signs of Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. This system can be helpful when trying to identify the identity of a Court card. For example, the Queen of Cups is a woman born under Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces:
Cups with Water: Summer
Star signs: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces
Pentacles with Earth: Autumn
Star signs: Virgo, Taurus, and Capricorn
Swords with Air: Winter
Star signs: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius
Wands with Fire: Spring
Star signs: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius
Using Astrology To Time Your Readings
If you are using a Tarot spread that has a position to indicate timing, then you can use astrology to predict that timing. If a Major Arcana card falls in the timing position, and it is associated with an astrological sign, you can use this to predict timing.
For example, the Hermit relates to Virgo, so the influence of this card may occur between August 24 and September 23. The influence of the Devil is linked to the time of Capricorn, between December 22 and January 20; interestingly, this relates to the Christmas and New Year period, when we are tempted to overindulge. You can also note if one Tarot element dominates. For example, if you draw mainly Cups in a spread, this indicates the event in question is likely to occur in summer. Pentacles indicate autumn, Swords winter and Wands indicate spring.
About Astrology
Unless combined with Tarot, astrology is not generally meant as a divination (prediction) tool. Primarily it is meant to tell you the truth about yourself, although it can suggest a likely life course. It is like holding a mirror up to yourself. All of your talents, failings, prejudices and passions, as well as your probability for success, are revealed. Whether this information helps you or not, depends on what you do with it.
For example, if your star sign suggests that you are mean with money, it implies you will also be mean in other areas of your life including love and affection. Knowing this, you can choose to fight and change your natural instincts (for the better), or to accept them as part of your life. There is always free will.
Studying Astrology
Astrology is the study of the effects that the sun, moon and other planets have on the Earth and humans, plants and animals. It dates back to prehistoric times when people first noticed that the Sun and Moon had powerful effects on harvests, animals, seas and humans. Knowing your Sun or Star sign is only a tiny part of astrology.
Creating a Birth Chart
Ideally, you should ask a professional astrologer to create a birth chart (you will need to know the exact time/hour of your birth as well as location, town or city of your birth). This will provide a detailed diagram of the sky, showing exactly where all the planets were placed on the minute/hour of your birth in the year you born. It also takes into account the geographical location of your birth. You will be amazed by the individual detail such a chart can provide about your character, strengths and weaknesses.

Here’s a site where you’ll find my writings.
The Bravehearts of Belgrave High is now published. I have completed the first in a series of novels that I wrote for teens. It is the courageous story of a young girl growing up in a home filled with domestic violence. She also has to endure a school and neighbourhood full of bullies. We read how she maneuvres her way through such a difficult situation. Plus, how she grows because of it, among other themes in the novel.
The desired outcome for young readers is that they will be inspired to treasure their unique differences. If they don’t fit in with the system or with those around them, then they should realise that it’s quite okay not to fit in.
My first novel was written to help raise funds for the private foundation that I established, which might later become a charity. Click here if you’d like to be taken to the site where you can purchase this novel. If you cannot see the site, use a browser other than Chrome.
