The first 22 cards of a tarot deck are part of the Major Arcana and are associated with the Journey of The Fool. The Fool is the only card that hasn’t been given a number from the 22 Major Arcana cards. The Fool’s number is Zero, because the Major Arcana is all about the Fool’s Journey. The Major Arcana’s 22 cards are a very good tool to use in the symbolic journey through human life. This is done in a way that depicts the story of someone who starts out to complete the great work of self-realisation. The three parts of the journey are Maturation, Individual self-realisation, and Initiation. In Astrology, these three phases can be connected to Saturn, who divides our life into these three parts on his journey around a 29-year orbit.
While the orbits of the other slower moving planets also provide us with important findings about our single life phases, the tarot cards visualise the issues and topics of the phases in a more direct way for us. (more…)

In the Tarot and The Kabbalah, the term ‘Arcana’ is plural. The singular aspect of this term is ‘Arcanum.’ ‘Arcanum’ refers to a type of knowledge, which is for the initiated, or a kind of knowledge that is mysterious for the average person. It is a science or understanding that one has to be introduced to. When we study the twenty-two Arcana, we are studying twenty-two laws, or twenty-two mysteries, that we have to be initiated into experientially in order to understand them.
