The Heirophant Card Emerald Tolemac
The Hierophant Card Emerald Tolemac is at once remote and welcoming, teacher as well as a gatekeeper. The questioner can learn much from him about the realm of spirit. He can be thought of as the male counterpoint to the High Priestess, and the nighttime companion to the daylight authority of the Emperor. His masculine spiritual power is something he wants to transmit.
Above all, the Hierophant is a spiritual teacher. The church behind him shows his connection to the spirit world, as it is grounded on the earth while reaching for the heavens. He has an understanding of the never-ending nature of the universe.
The number of this card is five, which represents the fifth element: that of spirit. Like the High Priestess, he is connected to the moon and the yin element. The moon shown in its full aspect is representative of spiritual power. There is also an element of danger, as the full moon is associated with lunacy. The Heirophant can handle that power and he is there to guide the questioner through the dark night of the soul. Appropriately, the Hierophant is shown sharing his knowledge because he is there as a guide and teacher for the questioner.
There are two young robed novices listening to his wisdom. These are his students and can be thought of as representative of the questioner. Behind the trio is a misty fog, a gate to the next world. The Heirophant Card Emerald Tolemac lights the way for the questioner with all of the brilliance of the full moon and starry sky. He has keys on his belt which symbolises his ability to open doors of knowledge to those who seek. This member of the arcana offers information in a kindly way.
His benevolence is shown by his open arms. He is trying to help those who sit at his feet to learn. He has a triple cross on his breast at the place of his heart. This shows his kind intention in spirit and his understanding of the trinity: physical, mental, spiritual. The greenery surrounding him also resonates with the green color of the heart chakra.
There are two significant flowering shrubs in his garden. The bush on the right is covered with star-shaped flowers with six petals each. Their colour represents purity and the truthful guidance of the stars. We will come to the meaning of the red-flowered bush later. The outdoors and wildness of the Hierophant’s environment relates to his element. His element is earth, hence the constellation of Taurus in the night sky. The stars offer guidance but are also remote and distant.
As noted before, there are two children seating on the grass listening to him. The Heirophant Card Emerald Tolemac is passing on his wisdom to the next generation. The fact that the listeners are seated and sit lower than him points to hierarchy, which has the same root meaning as his title. It took him time to amass his knowledge, hence his title. His knowledge gives him the power to perform binding rituals.
This brings us back to the red rose bush, which represents love. This is fitting since this member of the arcana presides over matrimonial joining and other important life rituals. The card is appropriately followed by The Lovers.
There are so many ways that the questioner can be helped by the Heirophant Card Emerald Tolemac. One should not be put off, though he shrouds himself in his cloak of wisdom and holds the keys to hearts and minds. One need only ask and be a willing pupil to gain access to what he has to offer.

Here’s a site where you’ll find my writings.
The Bravehearts of Belgrave High is now published. I have completed the first in a series of novels that I wrote for teens. It is the courageous story of a young girl growing up in a home filled with domestic violence. She also has to endure a school and neighbourhood full of bullies. We read how she maneuvres her way through such a difficult situation. Plus, how she grows because of it, among other themes in the novel.
The desired outcome for young readers is that they will be inspired to treasure their unique differences. If they don’t fit in with the system or with those around them, then they should realise that it’s quite okay not to fit in.
My first novel was written to help raise funds for the private foundation that I established, which might later become a charity. Click here if you’d like to be taken to the site where you can purchase this novel. If you cannot see the site, use a browser other than Chrome.
